Organoid (오가노이드)란?

성체줄기세포(adult stem cell, ASC), 배아줄기세포(embryonic stem cell, ESC), 유도만능줄기세포(iPSC)를 이용하여 in vitro에서 분화시킨 3차원 세포집합체로 3D 배양배지에 줄기세포 + Niche factor (성장인자, small molecule) + 세포외기질 (ECM)을 넣고 배양하여 제작합니다.
구성 세포나 구조가 실제 장기와 흡사해 신약 개발 과정에서 약물의 효능과 안전성을 알아보는데에 효과적이며, 환자의 피부세포(fibroblast)로 iPSC를 만들어 원하는 장기로 분화시킬 경우 “개인맞춤의학” 영역에서도 효과적으로 이용될 수 있습니다.
위, 심장, 뇌, 폐, 갑상선, 간 등 여러 타입의 장기 오가노이드가 이미 개발되었으며, 이들을 서로 연결해서 생체모사 시스템을 구축할 경우 실제 인간과 똑같은 생리작용이 체외에서도 그대로 실현될 것으로 기대됩니다.
